Sara Mayer: [00:00:00] Hello, and welcome to the bold girl goal crusher podcast, the podcast where we crush our goals and live boldly. And I'm Sara Mayer. I'm your host. And today we're going to talk about something that everyone faces on the path to success. Setbacks, no matter how well you plan or how hard you work, setbacks are truly inevitable, but the key to success in achieving your goals lies in not What the setback is, but how you respond to them.
Sara Mayer: So today we're going to dive into the topic of resilience, which is the ability to bounce back from setbacks and keep moving forward. Let's explore how to develop resilience and turn setbacks into setups for success. As setbacks are a natural part of any journey towards success. They come in many forms, and it could be a missed deadline, unexpected challenge, failed attempt, or even [00:01:00] moments of self doubt.
Sara Mayer: While these setbacks can be frustrating, they don't have to define your path to success. So resilience is the ability to recover quickly from these challenges and adapt to changing circumstances. And it's what separates those who achieve their goals from those who give up. So how do we build resilience?
Sara Mayer: How do we develop the mindset and skills need to bounce back stronger after setbacks? So let's really start by understanding what resilience is. Resilience isn't about avoiding problems or pretending everything is fine. It's truly about acknowledging the difficulty, facing it head on, and finding a way to move forward.
Sara Mayer: It's about embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, rather than viewing them as obstacles. And resilient people don't let setbacks derail their progress. They use them as stepping stones in their goals. [00:02:00] So here are a couple strategies to help you build resilience and bounce back from setbacks.
Sara Mayer: The first one is to shift your perspective. So the way you interpret setbacks can make all the difference. Instead of seeing a setback as a failure, try to reframe it as a learning experience. You might ask yourself, what can I learn from this situation or how can I improve next time by shifting your perspective?
Sara Mayer: You turn setbacks into valuable lessons that contribute to your goal growth. You can also practice self compassion. It's. Really easy to be hard on yourself when things don't go as planned. But being overly critical only makes setbacks harder to overcome. So practice some self compassion by treating yourself with the same kindness and understanding you would offer a friend.
Sara Mayer: Maybe also giving your friend a push, yourself a push as well. And remember that everyone makes mistakes and [00:03:00] setbacks are truly a normal part of the journey. And then it's important to focus on what you can control. So one of the biggest sources of stress during setbacks is feeling like things are out of your control and instead of dealing with what you can't change, focus on what you can control.
Sara Mayer: This might mean adjusting your plan, seeking help, or taking a small step forward. Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up. By focusing on what you can control, you regain a sense of agency and start moving in the right direction. So let me share a personal story about resilience. A while back, I was working on a major project that I had invested a lot of time and energy in.
Sara Mayer: And of course, everything was going as planned. Until it didn't and a series of unexpected setbacks completely derailed this project and I truly found myself really [00:04:00] being frustrated, disappointed and feeling like I didn't have the ability to succeed. So at first I was tempted to give up, of course, but then I realized this was merely an opportunity to learn and grow.
Sara Mayer: So I took a step back, re evaluated my approach. I made a couple of adjustments and it wasn't easy, but by staying resilient and refusing to let the setback define me or my work, I was able to turn things around. They were a little different than I originally had imagined, but actually it turned out better.
Sara Mayer: And what this experience taught me was that setbacks aren't easy. The end, they're just a part of the process. And the key is to stay flexible, keep learning and continue moving forward, no matter how tough things get. Now let's talk about some practical tips for building resilience in your life.
Sara Mayer: First, cultivate that growth mindset, a growth mindset is the belief that. Your abilities and intelligence [00:05:00] can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence. When you face setbacks, instead of thinking, I'm not good enough, think, I can get better with practice. And you know you have before. Embracing a growth mindset helps you see setbacks as opportunities to improve, rather than signs of failure.
Sara Mayer: It's important to build a support system. Resilience doesn't mean going at it alone. So when you surround yourself with people who support and encourage you, especially during tough times, whether it's friends, family, mentors, and peers, having that strong support system can help you stay motivated and give you the perspective you need to bounce back from setbacks.
Sara Mayer: Practicing problem solving. So resilient people are proactive problem solvers. So when you encounter a setback, take time to analyze the situation and come up with possible solutions. Break the problem down into smaller manageable steps and tackle them one at a time. Problem [00:06:00] solving helps you regain control and build confidence in your ability to overcome challenges.
Sara Mayer: And then don't forget to take care of your wellbeing. So resilience is closely tied to your physical and emotional health. So make sure you're getting enough rest, eating well, exercising and managing stress. When you take care of your body and mind, you're equipped to handle setbacks and recover more quickly.
Sara Mayer: In conclusion, setbacks are truly a natural part of the journey towards achieving your bold goals. The things that you really want are not easy, but they don't have to stop you in your tracks. So by building resilience, you can bounce back from setbacks stronger and more determined than ever. So remember to shift.
Sara Mayer: Your perspective, practice, self compassion, focus on what you can control and embrace a growth mindset, lean on your support system, sharpen your problem solving skills and take care of your wellbeing, resistant resilience [00:07:00] isn't about surviving challenges. It's about thriving despite them. So for tuning into the bold gold crusher podcast.
