[00:00:00] Welcome to the bold goal crusher podcast for anyone looking to stop letting life get in the way and start crushing bold goals. I'm your host, Sara Mayer, and I'm thrilled to navigate this journey with you because it's time to start boldly achieving without working double time. So let's dive in.
Sara Mayer: Hello, Gold Goal Crushers! Today we're going to talk about the power of visualizing your success and harnessing the power of goal visualization. Excuse me. So first off, It's really important that we are able when we're setting goals that we are able to visualize ourselves achieving that goal. Many times we think it's not possible or it's [00:01:00] too far away or I know several times I've set a goal and I haven't really sat with what does that look like when I achieve it?
Sara Mayer: And what does that feel like when I achieve it? I know when I have spent time really thinking about what that looks and feels like, the likelihood that I achieve the goal has increased. So it's an important tool for goal achievement. There are many psychological principles behind goal visualization.
Sara Mayer: Including the reticular activating system, RAS and the power of the subconscious mind. As we start to visualize ourselves achieving the goal, maybe you want to write a book and you visualize yourself on the cover of the book, or you want to launch a new program for your business, or you want to simply become a business owner when you visualize that and you activate your RAS.
Sara Mayer: [00:02:00] so much for joining us. And your subconscious mind understands that this is what you're driving towards all the things, all the ideas, all those things that come into play with your goal will start to flood your mind because your mind is thinking, Oh, I'm achieving this goal. I am a business owner. I am an author.
Sara Mayer: I am all these things. And there are many studies that. Show that when you visualize your goal, you are more likely to achieve it. So there are like these neutral networks in the brain and visualizing your goal actually primes your body for success. So you are ready for that success. So there are some techniques that you can use for effective goal visualization.
Sara Mayer: So the 1st 1, many people use is a vision board, but many people do vision boards incorrectly. They will start with a magazine. I don't have 1 right here, but if you're on YouTube, I'm like, flipping through they'll start with [00:03:00] the magazine and they'll start to look at things. Oh, I like that. Let me put that on the board when actually you should visualize your goal 1st.
Sara Mayer: And really sit with those mental images. If you want a homestead property, what does the land look like? Does it have a lot of trees? Is it in the desert? Does it have a creek? Does it have water flowing through? Is it very clear and flat so you could grow? Hey, what does that look like? And then go find the image for that.
Sara Mayer: And that's the difference between having an effective vision board and a vision board that you'll never achieve. And it's really creating those vivid mental images and engaging your multiple senses. So what does it feel like? What does it taste like? What does it smell like? All those things, all those tactical things, what do you hear when you're in that setting that increases your brain's ability to really think about that.
Sara Mayer: And you really want to incorporate those [00:04:00] emotions. How does that feel? How are you feeling in the moment? How are others interacting with you in the moment and how, maybe are you changing your posture? And so there's some obstacles when visualization such as maybe this disbelief that you could ever achieve it.
Sara Mayer: I'm not worthy of having being an author, or I don't know the steps to be able to become a business owner, or I'm not sure about whatever your goal may be. And so it's really important that you break down those feelings and really start to visualize what it would feel like. It's also easy when you're in this dreamy state to become distracted.
Sara Mayer: Okay, so I want to have a homestead. Oh, but I don't know how to buy a tractor. What kind of tractor could I have? Oh, let me go Google tractors. So stay away from that, you want to allow your brain to naturally come up with the various [00:05:00] things. I like to write them down and then find images for them for my, my vision board.
Sara Mayer: And then it's really important to integrate goal visualization into daily practice. So the more consistent and frequent you visualize your goals. And most importantly, achieving your goals, the quicker you're going to be able to achieve them. So many times people will do a visualization exercise at the beginning of the year.
Sara Mayer: And then they don't think about that again. They put the vision board up and then eventually it falls off the wall. Or I had 1 lady who had it in her garage. And then eventually it just blended in the wall. So it's really about having time in your calendar to actually continue to visualize your goal and adding that into your daily routines and habits, putting it in your journal, making sure that comes alive.
Sara Mayer: Now, there are athletes who have used this goal visualization to achieve remarkable success. Many people talk [00:06:00] about athletes talking about making the shots, especially in basketball, and some talk about the ability to really think about themselves in a different way. And I think that's really important.
Sara Mayer: Now, I'm not saying that you need to get all dreamy and not work on daily on tasks to achieve your goal. That's important as well. But what happens when you start to visualize yourself actually achieving this goal, and what it looks like to achieve the goal. It's everything is pointing you towards that.
Sara Mayer: And because of that. Things are going to come into your mind, into your universe that maybe were always there, but you didn't notice them because you hadn't really pointed your direction, your focus towards that vision. And I always tell the story about my client who wanted a castle and she dreamt of this big, beautiful, huge Cinderella type castle.
Sara Mayer: And then one day she started visualizing Over and over what that would look [00:07:00] like. And then all of a sudden on Facebook, she never spoke it out loud, actually, which is very interesting. All of a sudden on Facebook, she started getting advertisements for castles and other countries. And while she had this big, grandiose vision of a castle, her first castle, yes, I said first, because now she's had multiple her first castle.
Sara Mayer: Was smaller and she used that to Airbnb and to make money to then afford her later castle and the universe was doing that because she was regularly thinking and visioning about her castle. I encourage you to take some time today tomorrow to really visualize your goal and the success related to that goal, and then to go forward and put it on paper, put it somewhere.
Sara Mayer: Take care. So that you can regularly see it, but then most importantly, add it to your calendar so that your calendar is filled with time where you're working on, but also dreaming up your goals. So it's [00:08:00] time bold goal crushers time to get out there and visualize your goals because you can do it without working double time.
Sara Mayer: So let's get to it.
