Ep 192 Planning for your Holiday Sales
===
[00:00:00] Welcome to the bold goal crusher podcast for anyone looking to stop letting life get in the way and start crushing bold goals. I'm your host, Sara Mayer, and I'm thrilled to navigate this journey with you because it's time to start boldly achieving without working double time. So let's dive in.
Hello bold gold crushers today we're going to talk about one of my favorite times of the year and it's the holidays. The holidays are filled with magic and fun and family and hopefully lots of good energy for you. But the holidays are also filled with a ton of holiday sales, promotions, and things like that.
And if you are a small business or have a side hustle, it's time to really start planning those sales. If [00:01:00] you don't have a small business, it's also time to start planning how you shop. So let's talk about the major holidays that are coming up. And no, I don't mean Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a holiday, but there are some things that all fall around the Thanksgiving holiday in the US that are worldwide.
So the first one is Black Friday. And so Black Friday is the day when many. Retail major realty retailers and small businesses will do big sales, but that's not how Black Friday started. Black Friday started as the day of the year where companies would go into the black and start making a profit instead of being in the red on their financial books.
And so every year, many big box retailers do big sales on that day. So that kicks off the weekend. It is [00:02:00] the Friday after Thanksgiving, and that's what starts the bonanza. The next big holiday is Small Business Saturday, and this one has taken shape and has really encouraged people to support small businesses and think about how they're making a local impact on their community.
And then we take Sunday off, and then Monday is Cyber Monday, and how this holiday came about, or this holiday shopping bonanza came about, is that on Monday, many people went back to work, and once the internet took off, and Amazon, and all the things, people started logging onto their computers to try and buy things that maybe they didn't get over the weekend.
And one that you may not have heard of is Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is for the non profits to really get those donors engaged for their last minute [00:03:00] holiday season giving campaign. And so Giving Tuesday is a day about supporting non profits in their community. And then of course we have the 12 days of Christmas that some people participate in giving.
And then, of course, the Christmas season, if you celebrate Christmas, as well as other giving going on during this time. And then my favorite holiday is New Year's. And New Year's is a time of reflection and setting some goals. So this season is really packed with a lot of different things. I want to talk to my small business owners right now or my folks doing some side hustling.
There is a lot of noise on this weekend, but there's also a lot of shopping that's going on. So if you have not started to plan your holiday season or your holiday [00:04:00] gifting or your holiday Whatever you want to call it, your holiday promotions, it's time to start doing that right now to think about what you are going to offer maybe on Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Small Business Saturday.
For your business. It could be a percentage off. It could be something that you haven't done before. Maybe a coaching call with you or a special product or even a free gift with purchase. But I encourage you to get in the game, even if there is a lot of noise. People are looking to support their friends, their family, and they are spending a lot of money on things.
Now, if you're not a small business owner or you don't have a side hustle, you're just somebody who works in the corporate environment or maybe doesn't, but doesn't have a business. It's time to really think about the holiday season and how you plan to [00:05:00] engage in everything that goes on in the season. So not only how you want to show up and what you want your season to be about.
To think about the things that maybe you tend to buy throughout the year that may be on a discount. Now, check out those sales, check out those promotions and support your friends, family and nonprofits during the season. Those gifts tend to be more meaningful to the people receiving them, but also to your friends and family who you could be supporting.
So think about the small businesses as we turn into the giving season and really think about the impact you want to make. And I encourage you to take advantage of all the things that are going on. But if you are a small business, Or side hustler. It's time to plan those promotions and get those on the calendar.
And if you have friends and family that typically support you, tell them in advance what you're doing [00:06:00] for this weekend so that they know how to support and promote you, especially during the busy season. Season now pro tip, send an email out the week before telling everybody all the things that you're going to do on that weekend, but you might also keep some surprises.
All right, bold goal crushers it's time to crush your goals and everything that gets in the way so you do not have to work double time. So let's get to it.
