Sara Mayer: Hello, bold goal crushers. Thanks for tuning in to this episode of the bold goal crusher podcast. I hope you've been enjoying the show today. We're going to talk about the power of visualizing your goals. So how do you use mental imagery to achieve your goals? We dive into the fascinating topic of goals all the time, but today we're going to talk about.
Sara Mayer: The concept of visualizing your goals [00:01:00] and how you can use it to serve as a powerful tool to enhance your goal achievement. So join us as we discuss various techniques and strategies to harness the true potential of mental imagery and boosting that focus and motivation along the way. So first off.
Sara Mayer: Visualization is a powerful tool and it can play a very significant role in goal setting. And there's a whole science behind visualization and how the brain processes mental imagery. So the brain really does not know the difference between what's real and what's not real. We can tell it, but. If you can imagine your goals, the likelihood of you achieving them is greater because there's a link between that visual and achievement.
Sara Mayer: So research studies support [00:02:00] that there. is a likely a higher likelihood that you will achieve your goals when you use effective visualization. So there's real success stories about that as well. Many people use the term manifestation or. Or like willing it to happen, how it goes, you decide you want a red car.
Sara Mayer: We've all heard this. And then all of a sudden you see a ton of red cars. So it could be the universe attracting you to the red cars, or it could simply be there's a ton of red cars. But how it works is there's a mind and body connection that happens when you start to visualize. And. Mental imagery then does shape your brain to start thinking about those things that will get you closer to what you are visualizing.
Sara Mayer: For example, the red car. So there's [00:03:00] several types of visualization techniques that you may use. So one is like a guided visualization and that's walking through visualizing the exercise. So you're guiding your brain to really think about these things in a logical way. There's also outcome visualization.
Sara Mayer: So that could mean that you are seeing the end results and then you're working backwards to achieve it. So what that could look like is I want to start a business and this is what it'll look like when it's started and going and running, and then you walk backwards to. to actually achieve that. Then there's process visualization where you are really thinking about and visualizing each step of the journey to reach the goal.
Sara Mayer: So it could be, I'm starting here. This is what it's going to look like. This is how [00:04:00] it's going to feel. This is what I'm going to be doing. And then you move on to the next step. So there's lots of different types of Visualization guided outcome and process are three of the great ways that you can do this, but there are some tips for visualization.
Sara Mayer: So you want to create an environment for you to actually sit down and visualize what you're going to do and to practice the technique of visualization. And it's really important to use all your senses to create that mental imagery and to make it vivid and powerful. And so it could be, what does it smell like?
Sara Mayer: What does it feel like? What does it look like? Maybe what does it taste like if you're eating something in your. Mental image, but that makes it more powerful and brings it more to life. And of [00:05:00] course you want to incorporate emotions to strengthen this experience, because it's not an exercise of, Oh, I'm going to visualize this.
Sara Mayer: And then check Mark, I'm done. It's about bringing this experience to life. So it does allow you to get closer to your goals. Now there are going to be obstacles and challenges when you're trying to do this. And so one of the things is you may not have the place. You may not be in the right mindset to visualize this.
Sara Mayer: So it may be a busy place that you're in a loud place. So make sure you're in the right place. And then you're also in the correct head space in a space where you are able to let your mind wander and. Explore topics and things without doubts and without saying, Oh, I can never do that. Or that's too far away or why I tried that, but it didn't work.
Sara Mayer: So it's [00:06:00] really important to set the stage for your visualization activity and make sure that you are in a place and space that you are able to have a great experience. The next tip is to make sure you combine visualization with action. So it's important to understand that taking tangible steps alongside the visualization is important.
Sara Mayer: So yes, I achieved the goal. This is what it's going to look like, but how do I feel? How do I act? What are those conversations? So really getting deep with This visual and it can enhance your motivation and folks focus during this because it's helping you to really think about that scenario, which currently is hypothetical, but what it will be like when you're in it and to interact and to role play those things.
Sara Mayer: So it is important to [00:07:00] visualize for specific goals. So it could be various areas of your life. Like here's my life overall visual. Here's my career. Here's if I'm in sports, here's my academics, here's my job, here's my business and making sure that those visuals are tailored to the different areas that you're working on.
Sara Mayer: Now you can suit your techniques to your different individual preferences and objectives. So some people may jot these all down. Some people may just sit with their eyes closed and have that as a. Thing in their head, I do in court encourage you to take it to paper so that you are able to capture what you have visualized and you can reference back to it.
Sara Mayer: I'm big on reflection of the goal journey. So definitely consider. Putting it to paper after you're done it. Now there are a couple pitfalls to avoid. So [00:08:00] make sure that you're in a great place. Make sure that you're not in a place where you're questioning every part of the visual and make sure that it is realistic.
Sara Mayer: stick, but it's not too over the top, but it's also not playing it safe because sometimes we play things a little too safe, but it is about capturing all those dreams, all those goals and motivating yourself to know that it is possible, but also putting it out into the universe so that you and your brain are constantly coming back to that visual and helping you get closer to that goal.
Sara Mayer: Now, I know there's lots of ways that you can dream and come up with your goals, but I encourage you to take a look at visualization. It's a great way to really guide your future and also to set your path on achieving the goals. So there are those three [00:09:00] types of visualization guided outcome and process.
Sara Mayer: I encourage you to choose one today and get to work and see how it goes. Captured in your goal notebook, if you have one and get your goals moving forward, because today is all about making your dreams come true. So thank you for joining us on this empowering journey through the power of visualization.
