bold goal crusher podcast Jan 28, 2024

Introduction:

Welcome to the Bold Goal Crusher podcast for anyone looking to stop letting life get in the way and start crushing bold goals. I'm your host, Sara Mayer, and I'm thrilled to navigate this journey with you because it's time to start boldly achieving without working double time. In this blog post, we will discuss the concept of being a prisoner to your to-do list and provide strategies for breaking free from this cycle.

Breaking Free from the To-Do List Prison:

In a previous episode, titled "Breaking Free from the To-Do List Prison," I sent an email to my audience, and it sparked a lot of responses. Many people asked if we should stop using to-do lists altogether. The answer is no, we shouldn't stop using to-do lists, but we do need to change our mindset and approach towards them.

The Addiction to To-Do Lists:

Being organized and productive is undoubtedly important, but have you ever considered the possibility that our constant need to add and cross things off our to-do lists might be turning us into prisoners of our own productivity? The addiction to to-do lists can trap us in a cycle of perpetual busyness, where we focus more on completing immediate tasks rather than working towards our broader goals.

Viewing To-Do Lists as Tools:

To break free from this cycle, we need to shift our mindset and view our to-do lists as tools to support our goals, rather than goals themselves. It's about striking a balance between staying organized and ensuring that our daily activities align with our broader vision.

Reassessing Our Approach to Productivity:

To start breaking free from the to-do list prison, it's essential to reassess our approach to productivity. Here are some strategies to consider:

  1. Take a Step Back and Reflect on Your Goals:

Before diving into your to-do list, take a step back and reflect on your goals. Make sure they are compelling and aligned with your long-term objectives.

  1. Set Three Actionable Goals Each Week:

Each week, set three actions or first steps towards your goals that you will commit to accomplishing no matter what. These actions may not be easy, but they are essential for progress.

  1. Schedule Time in Your Calendar:

Don't just rely on your to-do list; schedule dedicated time in your calendar for these three actions. By assigning specific time slots, you create a commitment to follow through.

  1. Avoid Overloading Your Week:

While it's tempting to fill your to-do list with numerous tasks, be mindful of the realistic amount you can accomplish in a week. Avoid overwhelming yourself and set realistic expectations.

  1. Track Your Progress:

Instead of focusing solely on crossing off tasks, keep track of your progress towards your goals. Celebrate milestones and use your to-do list as a tool for achieving your broader vision.

Conclusion:

Your to-do list should work for you, not be a ball and chain that holds you back from your goals. By reframing your perspective and using your to-do list as a tool for accomplishment, you can break free from the cycle of mindless busyness. Remember, it's all about being intentional in our actions and ensuring that our daily activities align with our broader vision.

So, let's challenge ourselves to reassess our approach to productivity and start using our to-do lists as tools to support our goals. It's time to break up with the to-do list prison and start boldly achieving our dreams.
